By downloading or using Cortex ("the app"), you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully.

1. Description of Service

Cortex is a digital wellness application designed to help you reduce compulsive smartphone usage through impulse interception. The app uses Apple's Screen Time API to detect when you open selected apps and presents brief mindfulness interventions.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Cortex. By using the app, you represent that you meet this age requirement.

3. Account & Permissions

• Cortex requires Screen Time (FamilyControls) permission to function. Without this permission, the core app interception feature will not work.
• Notification permission is recommended but optional.
• You can revoke permissions at any time through iOS Settings.

4. Subscriptions & Payments

• Cortex offers a free tier with limited features and a premium subscription ("Cortex Pro").
• Subscriptions are billed through Apple's App Store. All payments are processed by Apple.
• Free trial periods, if offered, automatically convert to paid subscriptions unless cancelled before the trial ends.
• You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID settings at any time.
• Refunds are handled by Apple according to their refund policy.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app
• Use the app for any purpose other than personal digital wellness
• Attempt to circumvent any security features or access restrictions
• Use the app to monitor other people's device usage without their consent

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

Cortex is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will achieve any specific results in reducing screen time. The app is a tool to assist your own efforts at digital wellness.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cortex and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of productivity, or any health-related outcomes.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, design, and code in Cortex are owned by the developer. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app for personal purposes.

9. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved in the jurisdiction where the developer is located.
